Vides Filmu Studija (VFS) is the leading documentary production company in the Baltic States with the particular focus on Man and Nature stories. The mainstay of our creative output is documentaries, TV programmes and image videos. Founded in 2003, the creative and administrative team of Vides Filmu Studija has been working together since 1997 when producer and cameraman Uldis Cekulis created a video production unit under the auspices of Ministry for Environment of Latvia. Over the seven years of its existence, this unit produced twenty documentaries on environmental and wildlife topics, in addition to a weekly half-hour TV magazine Vides Fakti for Latvias public broadcaster LTV. This magazine, dedicated to wildlife and environment, won the prestigious Best TV Programme of 2003 award for its high visual quality, style and touch of originality. Over the seven years of its existence as an independent company, Vides Filmu Studija has produced nine full-length and several short documentaries, a number of image videos and corporate films, and is currently working on six other documentary film projects that are at various stages of the production process. Simultaneously, we are producing three regular half-hour TV programmes for LTV: Ar makšķeri (fishing and angling), Uz meža takas (forest wildlife and hunting) and Ziemeļu puse (the Nordic style in the broadest sense of the world). VFS operates with a small administrative staff, but what makes us feel really strong is the fact that over these years we have created a solid network of mostly young and talented directors, cameramen, scriptwriters, musicians and others, who share a passion for filmmaking and the endless beauty of life. The success of VFS largely lies in the combination of a professional and talented team, a skilful use of cutting-edge video technology (HD, XDCAM and HDV formats), and a dynamic approach to the production process. We co-operate with a number of European broadcasters, including NDR (Germany), YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), LRT (Lithuania), ETV (Estonia), and production companies, such as Studio Hamburg (Germany), Vesilind (Estonia), Filmtank Hamburg (Germany) and B&B Film (Italy). Vides Filmu Studija is a member of the European Documentary Network (EDN). |
